Tokyo - August 10, 2022 - sustainacraft, the National Institute for Environmental Studies and Hitotsubashi University have started a joint research project to create high-quality forest-based carbon credits. This research has been selected by the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) for the “Technology-based Start-ups Support Project” in 2022.

The project will promote joint research on the following themes; -Estimation of above-ground biomass in tropical rainforests with diverse tree species and complex hierarchical structures -Estimation of terrestrial biodiversity by integrating earth observation data and spatio-temporal models -Development of robust project evaluation methods, including analysis of non-project impacts such as introduction of new policies and evaluation of negative externalities of projects
